  • What is Flames Homeschool Sports?

    We are a non-profit organization designed to allow homeschooled students to participate in competitive sports, clubs, and events. We cater to homeschooling families in Front Royal, VA, and surrounding areas. 


    Our Athletic Programs: 

    archery, baseball, basketball, cross country, homeschool P.E., soccer, track & field, volleyball


    Our Clubs & Events: 

    art, chess, theater, homecoming dance, spring formal dance, murder mystery dinner, annual bonfire

  • Who can participate in Flames?

    Flames is for all homeschooling families in Warren County, Virginia, and surrounding areas. We have something for children ages 7-18 (age eligibility varies by program). We do not have a strict geographical boundary, but our programs are designed to be convenient to residents of Warren County, VA; those in other areas may have significantly more travel time especially for away games. 

  • How do I register?

    Registration is completed online through our website during the designated registration period. Registration dates vary by program. 

  • How much does it cost to join?

    There are no monthly or annual membership fees; you only pay for the programs you intend to use.

  • What does the registration fee include?

    Registration fees typical cover facility rentals, league fees, officials, administrative costs, equipment, and basic team operations. 


    Some programs may also require additional fees for uniforms, tournament costs, or travel. We make every effort to disclose all potential fees in our registration wording. 

  • Do you offer payment plans?

    Payment plans are available for certain programs. Typically the program fee will be divided in half, with one half due at registration and the other half due before the program begins. 

  • Do you offer any scholarships, financial aid, or sibling discounts?

    At this time we do not have any scholarship or discounts available. 

  • Where are practices held?

    We practice in and around Warren County, Virginia. Sometimes we rent facilities in neighboring counties. Most games/meets and events are within an hour of Front Royal, VA.  

  • What happens if practice is canceled?

    Coaches will alert families as soon as possible if a practice is canceled. Alerts may be sent out via email, social media, or phone/text.

  • How is playing time determined?

    Coaches will determine playing time based on a variety of factors. Our competitive athletic programs do not require try-outs and we will coach anyone; however, playing time can be affected by experience, attendance, and behavior, among other things.

  • How do I volunteer?

  • How are coaches trained or screened?

    All coaches start by filling out our online volunteer application . Assuming we get satisfactory responses from the prospective volunteer's references, we proceed with onboarding. For a coach, that includes: background check, Protecting Students from Abuse (a course created by U.S. Center for SafeSport in collaboration with National Fedoration of State High School Associations), and concussion training. 

  • What safety measures are in place for children?

    ALL volunteers are required to submit to a background check. Athletic coaches are required to take a concussion training course. Athletic and Club leaders also take a course called Protecting Students from Abuse. 

  • What is the organization's Code of Conduct?

    Flames Homeschool Sports Code of Conduct


    1. Parents are responsible for their children's behavior at all Flames events and activities. Coaches are not able to monitor the behavior of every child, all the time. Parental attendance at games and events is strongly encouraged to show support and ensure all children are safe and behaving appropriately. 


    2. Negative attitudes towards teammates, coaches, and parent volunteers are unacceptable. All Flames are expected to be supportive and positive of each other. 


    3. Bullying in any form will not be tolerated and may result in dismissal from the program, or other disciplinary consequences, as determined by the Athletic Director and the Board of Directors. 


    4. Practices are mandatory. Developing skills, bonding with teammates, and winning games requires consistent practice. Please arrange your schedule to get your children to all practices and games, on time. Missing practices and games may result in less playing time. 


    5. Flames shall exemplify Christian love in all interactions at Flames events and activities in accordance with 1 Cor. 13. 


    6. Modest attire and appropriate behavior are required at all Flames events and activities. See 1 Thess. 4:1-8. 


    7. Proper respect for all personal property and public facilities shall be shown. 


    8. All Flames events and activities are non-smoking, non-alcoholic, and drug-free. 


    9. No profanity or coarse jesting is allowed at Flames events and activities.
